Excellent photos, especially the birds, which can be very difficult to photograph. Are you holding back on the pangolins? ;-)

Pangolin's only appear for Kaye. I often joke that it's all animatronics, so clearly I need to upgrade to the 21 night stay to see them.

Hi Elke and Matt!

We absolutely loved viewing your beautiful photos (especially the ones of the leopard perched in a limb of a tree)!! We were psyched for our Fall trip to South Africa before this; but now - well, I am jumping out of my skin with excitement! We were also happy to see some shots of Mala Mala and get an idea of what is in store for us there. In fact, the photos of all the different animals were fabulous! Thank you so much for sharing them and for all your excellent advice so far.

Great photos-brings back wonderful memories of a very special place.

I wonder if those jackal pups were the same ones that Kaye saw. You have lots of good leopard activity with my favorites being the stalking shots. I liked the wading hyena. The pair of vervets in the tree were precious. Cute baby buffalo and the front and rear views of the waterbuck were good.

We will be at Ngala Main Camp on Thurs., Oct 4 and Fri., Oct. 5, and at Mala Mala Main Camp on Sat., Oct. 6 and Sun., Oct 7. (This is part of our 1st trip to Africa)!

I will have been at Main Camp about a week before you. Be sure to read the sightings diary at www.malamala.tv, that will really give you a good sense of what's going on.

The fact that you frequent MM (main camp) so often really reassures us on our choice to stay there! It was difficult to decide on 2 lodges and I hope that Ngala Main camp will prove to be wonderful also. (We are also going to Capetown, Johannesburg, and Vic Falls). Again, many thanks. We appreciate it and loved your photos!!

Elke, fantastic pictures. I am in the process of buying a new digital camera and since we're planning an Africa trip I'm considering how that might change my requirements so would like to know what equipment you used in getting these pictures.

Not to get off topic too much but we're looking to do our first trip to Africa. We want to see Capetown & Victoria but also do at least two camps and spend about 15 days. I posted this question in number 36 on this forum, but after seeing your shots would like your opinion, especially on the camps.

I will answer for Elke, she works far harder than I do. I've spent the day bird watching at Bodega Bay (without incident for you Hitchcock fans)

Elke has two bodies and two lenses for safari, plus a pocket point and shoot for dinner, bar etc.

Canon Digital Rebel and Canon 30D
Lenses are Canon IS 100-400 F4.5
Canon IS 28-300 F3.5
She has also has an external flash.

For video I shoot with a Sony VX2100 which is brilliant.

As to camps, in South Africa we recommend Mala Mala, it is like a second home to us.

In Botswana, my favourites are Mombo and Kings Pool, but we tend to like a certain level of luxury(well a huge amount).

Great photos! It really is special to look at someone's else's pictures and recognise some animals and people! Really pleased to hear that at least one Eyrefield Pride cub has been seen plus the cub of the Ngoboswan Female as with you mentioning that she may have been looking for the Bicycle Crossing Male for mating purposes had me a little anxious that something may have happened to her cub.

I am another huge fan of MalaMala and I shall find my recent photos from MalaMala and top them up or whatever the phrase is! I was there 31.12.06 to 18.1.07 and shall be back there in March and cannot wait.
