Hi Kja,

What a wonderful trip report! We exchanged some notes last summer when I traveled to Portugal. I’m now planning a trip to Morocco in September - though in the very beginning stages.

Your writing is impeccable and your interests are so broad and deep! Do you mind if I ask your background? I learn so much when I travel and then a year later, I forget many of the historical details - lol!

Thanks for your contributions to all! I may be doing some solo travel myself this year and your posts are very helpful! 😊

@ sueblue: What nice comments! I’m glad you’ve found my contributions helpful and that you enjoyed this particular trip report. Don’t hesitate to let me know if you have questions.

As for my background, perhaps the most relevant part is that I grew up with the National Geographic, spending time with it even before I could read. Too, I grew up surrounded by artists – my mother, an aunt, a sister. My mother’s fascination with art and architecture was a particularly powerful influence. Another aunt was a traveler; she began to travel solo and independently during the 1950s.

Still, like you, I learn a lot when researching my trips, learn more while actually enjoying my journeys, and then (sigh) forget most of it.

IMO, solo travel is a great self-indulgence. I love it! If it will be a new experience for you, you might find this collection of links to trip reports helpful:

A CORRECTION. With my apologies, the next to the last photo in post #1 was taken in Fez, not Marrakech. You can see not only contrasts in this shot, but also part of the Dar al-Magana, or Water Clock

Ah, makes sense. Sounds like you very much have an artist’s sensibility and interest! Great stuff to read with great tips! Thanks and I’m sure we will cross paths regarding other trips - 😊.
