Scroll down the 2nd site for the dengue map - it's better than the first sites map.
I'll do anything to not work on my final school project :) ..... procrastinating....
Even dengue is more exciting.
Will Sherry make graduation this year??? :?

africnow May 13th, 2006 03:19 PM

Excellent sites and good information cybor. Thanks!

YES! Sherry will graduate. Hit the books girl!

What are you reading?

Mediatorr May 13th, 2006 06:51 PM

I've found the Buzz Off products to be at least somewhat effective. I have a hat, a couple of shirts and some socks. I think I did get one bit on an ankle when wearing the socks on a hike after a rain in Belize. I will definitely be taking them to Africa.

africnow,
My trips were late Jan/early Feb and late Nov/early Dec. I would think that in August insects would be fewer.

Africanow,
It's many books and online research for my reports. The rest is designing buildings that won't fall over and possibly kill people, all the while making them functional and lastly attractive. This is all to be presented at a verbal visual presentation in front of the bigwig critics who can make or break my career.
If I flunk out, I'll design the perfect loo in African camps or maybe mobile pedicure stations in the Serengeti.
Thanks for the kind words!
Sherry

Sorry - you are American? "What are you reading" is British for "what are you studying". I guess from your answer it is Architecture?

"If I flunk out, I'll design the perfect loo in African camps" - maybe we should all start hoping that you flunk out? No, never, but still - - - :)

Patty
Thanks for the answer and the encouragement.

Sherry....I like the idea of only applying Deet to your pulse-points. What if the little critters decide to go for your forearm. I just want to make sure doing this protects your whole body. Thanks

cybor May 19th, 2006 04:22 AM

Hello LIT,
The reason for the pulse point application, is that like perfume, your body heat will release the deet essence and create somewhat of a field around you. You may have to reapply if perspiring or getting wet. This has worked for me. I would however, use a back up when going to wettish environments such as when canoeing in swamp/wet/infested areas. In addition to deet, I would cover up and wear treated clothing or perhaps spray some repellant on clothing and/or use a natural product on other exposed areas.
Hope that helps;
Sherry
