Cape Town Restaurants
I'll be going to Cape Town at the beginning of September after safari in Singita. Can anyone recommend good restaurants in Cape Town?
|
Please search this forum for Cape Town restaurants since there have been many posts here. A recent N.Y. Times article on Cape Town mentioned a couple of the hottest new ones, but they aren't right in town.
http://travel.nytimes.com/2009/02/22...petown.html?em It also notes how cheaply you can dine in the finest places. I hesitate to recommend places I like since I haven't been there since 2006 and things change quickly in the resto biz. |
We thoroughly enjoyed our multiple course meal at the Roundhouse in Camps' Bay with the wine pairing. I'd suggest if you go there you research when the sun will set and request a window table. it was one of the best meals I've ever had.

We spent a week there in 2007. There were many high points in the food arena but if I had to recommend one upscale restaurant (I am assuming you want upscale since you will be at Singita) it would be The Showroom.
There are also many great casual seafood places: we loved Panama Jack's http://www.panamajacks.net/site2/intro.html# |
One of my favourites:

Thank you all for your recommendations! I'll post reviews after return.

hi alund,
we were not there for fine dining. but we thought that the two oceans restaurant at the cape of good hope was exceptional for its postion with its captive audience. so different from our own dreadful Land's End. regards, ann |
There is a lot of discussion of food in this report from my 2007 trip:

We were at Singita after Capetown, and enjoyed both The Showroom and One Waterfront at Cape Grace.

There's a foodie forum on Chowhound for Africa that frequently covers Cape Town - http://chowhound.chow.com/boards/51

Ek, taking your suggestion on La Petite Ferme. Fairyjay, taking your suggestion on One Waterfront.
Kurt, taking your suggestion on Zorinas. Thank you all for recommendations. Keep them coming! |
Kurt, any reason why you recommend Chandani over Bukhara?
|
Firstly, you will love Singita, enjoy! We loved Bukhara. The tandoori were excellent! Jardine was not as good as we expected; not on the same level of NYC restaurants of that caliber. The Cafe Royale serves delicious burgers; great for lunch! We will be returning to SA this June with our three teenagers and are looking forward to returning to Bukhara and trying other restaurants. Google best restaurants in Capetown and you will get some good feedback as well!
