We'll be in Paris for 5 days in late May. What are the best resources on restaurants? I don't necessarily need to eat in Michelin starred restaurants, but with only 5 days, I'd like to make some reservations at good mid-priced restaurants. Some days, we might eat our big meal at lunch. Online guides? Books I should buy?
Thanks so much for y... Read More

Looking for feedback on using one of the VAT refund apps available for iPhone. I see there are a few options and was wondering if folks liked them. How easy and reliable are they?
Also I've found different minimum purchase amounts posted online. Some sites say 100€ others say 175€ for France.
Thanks all.

Hi All,
looking to possibly stay at this place in the summer (have a two year old and six year old). Has anyone stayed here? Reviews look great but rooms look super old and outdated. As long as they’re clean I’m basically okay. Also considering Villa Roma in upstate NY but the rooms also look super outdated.
thanks!

We booked this trip back in May. We’d been trying to visit the Dolomites since 2020, first planned for October, then moved to December. The trip had been completely booked and cancelled twice.
Hopefully, the third time would be the charm.

My young adult kids are flying on AA from the US to London where they will transfer to Finnair to Helsinki and then to a smaller plane to Tromso. They only travel with a 22" roller carryon and a daypack. This is no problem to bring on board with AA. But Finnair has more strict weight restrictions and there is no way their bags will be under the... Read More

As I gear up for an exciting two-month adventure across California in early 2025, I find myself in need of some advice. Hi crew and as always. Thank you in advance for your thoughts and guidance.
To make the most our our visit to Spain and her sights I like to when it makes sense hire a guide, or join a small to medium size group .I have learned that wandering aimlessly unless its on casual a stroll is not the best use of our limited time, Here are our dates and ci... Read More

We are going on a road trip in May starting in Tucson, headed to Joshua Tree (for Saguaro Nat'l Park) and then to Taos. Any ideas or suggestions for lodging, must see things along the way, or best routes? Vacation is May 16 - 24. The drive from Tucson to Taos is pretty long, are there any recommended stops along the way? Thanks! Jennifer Read More

As my Chicago trip winds up, I feel the need to share some of my experience in the so-called Windy City.
Late April/early May, the weather for the most part has been almost perfect. Not too hot and not too cold.
Chicago reminds me of NY in a lot of ways. It usually gets compared to Canadian city Toronto but having lived there, I would place Chica... Read More

We are planning about 10 days in Tuscany and Umbria. This would include Florence 2 nights and Siena 1 night, cities we have visited multiple times before, so essentially 7 days to divide among the small hill towns and Perugia. At the moment, we are thinking of picking up a hire car for one week from Siena, driving to Orvieto as a base, but stoppi... Read More

I have this to plan as I finish a Trafalgar tour in Paris, then I'm going to visit a friend in Switzerland. (Meggen just out of Lucerne). I will have a couple of days to fill in before arriving there so wondering about the best way to travel. Should I have another day or two in France, or perhaps travel half way there and stay at another town/city.... Read More

I've been reading about protests happening in different parts of Spain regarding overtourism. We have a trip planned next month and I would like to get some feedback from locals or recent visitors on what's happening and if there is anything we should or shouldn't do while there that will not ruffle any feathers.

We are flying from Honolulu, Hawaii (where we live) to Los Angeles, then onto Paris. It's going to be a long journey so we plan to give ourselves a day or two for jet lag i... Read More

Hello everyone!
My husband and I are planning a month long trip to Northern Italy for May 2025. We have visited Italy only once, and that was a lifetime ago in the 1970’s! We spent a week in Rome and a day in Florence.
We are both in our 70’s. This will be our only trip to northern Italy, so we want to visit all the places that intere... Read More

Where have you gone in Europe where someone has assumed by your face that you are from somewhere specific in Europe?
Today I was musing if I shall ever finally find MY face country. You know--a place where you look around and find people who look more like you than not. My other family members have had that happen; I have not.
When we travel,... Read More

The Michelin Guide revealed the brand new One, Two, and Three Key distinctions for the most outstanding hotels. It includes over 5,000 hotels across the world, and not a single one is simply a room for the night. These are places that significantly add to your experience as a traveler, each vetted and judged excellent in five categories: architectu... Read More

Apologies if this has been posted before. Venice has finally started charging their "day entrance fee" for those who are only coming in for the day. If you are staying in Venice you do not have to pay, but you do have to register. They are starting with some dates now and over the summer. I am arriving on May 2 and had no idea but someone I will be... Read More
