Fodor's Expert Review Tambopata Ecolodge
Tambopata River, 3-hr boat ride south of Puerto Maldonado, Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios, Peru
Rooms at this thatched lodge on the Tambopata River, have screened windows, mosquito nets, and porches with hammocks where you can rest after a day of exploring the rain forest. Standard rooms in thatched duplexes lack electricity but have solar-powered hot water. Freestanding bungalow suites have electricity and offer more privacy. The minimum stay is two nights, but a three-night trip with a visit to the Collpa Chuncho is recommended.
PROS
- decent rooms
- good day trips
CONS
- less wildlife than other lodges
- you can hear neighbors in standard rooms
