Fodor's Expert Review Pantiacolla Lodge

290 km (180 miles) northeast of Cusco, Cusco, Cusco, Peru

Named for the mountain range that towers over it, the Pantiacolla Lodge sits in a 2,223-acre private nature reserve in the Manu Cultural Zone that boasts 600 bird species and an array of mammals. Rooms lack electricity and are very basic (two beds with mosquito netting and a table). Three bungalows have private baths, but most guests use toilets and showers in a separate building. Tours here include overnights at the San Pedro Lodge, in the cloud forest, and can include the Sachavaca campsite, in the Manu Reserved Zone. Because this area is higher, it is slightly cooler, and has fewer mosquitoes than the Manu lowlands.
