Fodor's Expert Review Muyuna Lodge
San Juan de Yanayacu, 140 km (87 miles) southwest of Iquitos, Iquitos, Loreto, Peru Fodor's Choice
Poised at the edge of a seasonally flooded forest on the tranquil Yanayacu River, Muyuna Lodge is surrounded by exuberant tropical forest teaming with wildlife. Screened bungalows shaded by trees have attractive tile bathrooms, cold-water showers, and porches with hammocks; the nicest ones have river views. The forest behind the lodge holds plenty of wildlife, and you're likely to see cocoi herons, black-collared hawks, squirrel monkeys, dolphins, and much more on daily boat excursions. Kerosene lanterns provide light at night, but the dining hall, where hearty buffet meals are served, has electric lights and outlets for charging batteries. It's worth spending four nights here.
