Casa Cartagena

Pumacurco 336, Cusco, Cusco, Peru

Fodor’s Expert Review

Just a few blocks north of the Plaza de Armas on a quiet cobblestone street lies this elegant boutique hotel where whitewashed walls, exposed wood beams, and Peruvian embroidered pillows temper the trendy lamps and contemporary Italian furniture of this 17th-century restored property. Rooms are spacious and many have balconies that overlook the well-landscaped courtyard; some have modern soaking tubs. Other room features include down duvets, iPod docks, flat-screen TVs, oxygen (to help with altitude sickness), and the colorful Peruvian embroidered pillows, which are also available in the gift shop. At the spa, a large indoor hot tub and steam room are open to all guests—great after walking the hilly streets of Cusco.
