Fodor's Expert Review Taberna Club de la Unión
A jovial, publike atmosphere prevails in this wonderful, labyrinthine cellar down the side stairway of Sara Braun's old mansion on the main plaza. Patagonian beers like Austral are served cold in frosted mugs while you eat tapas-style meat, cheese, and seafood appetizers. A series of nearly hidden rooms in cozy stone and brick have black-and-white photos of historical Punta Arenas adorning the walls. Some of the glamour has been lost with the decision to install large-screen TVs, but they tend to show tasteful concert films. The bar is affiliated with the Club de la Unión headquartered upstairs, and many members relax down here.
