Getting Here and Around

Bus travel to and from the towns around São Paulo can be a time-consuming affair because of heavy traffic to and from the big city to commuter towns along the coast and inland, particularly on weekends. It is also possible to rent a car or take a taxi, particularly as roads are good and traffic isn’t too chaotic once you're out of the city. Reaching many of the destinations around São Paulo is feasible by taxi, but expect to pay upwards of R$200 for one-way trips, even for relatively nearby destinations such as Embu das Artes and Santana de Parnaíba. Your taxi driver might agree to a flat fee over turning on the meter.
