Fodor's Expert Review Casa Natal de Sarmiento
This modest house was the birthplace of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento (1811–88), known to Argentines as the Father of Education. Sarmiento was a prolific writer, a skilled diplomat, and a successful politician who served as governor of San Juan Province from 1862 to 1864 and as president of the country from 1869 to 1874. During this time he passed laws establishing public education. Today Casa Natal de Sarmiento—Argentina’s first designated National Historic Landmark—pays tribute to his achievements.
