Boliche de Bessonart

The ancient two-story brick building looks like it's right out of old western movie, and the interior also fits the part. Nothing fancy here, this is a place for vermouth and soda, beer, and platter of good cured meats and cheese. If you're around at night, you'll find it's a regular watering hole for the local gauchos.

La Cuadra

Silver and leather aren't the only hand-crafted products in San Antonio. A few varieties of artisanal beer, have been brewed locally for La Cuadra. The amber-colored Scottish ale packs a punch in winter; the paler pilsner's ideal for cooling off in summer. Pizzas, sandwiches, and other snacks accompany them. Just don't sit too closely to the speakers.

Candy jars, old bottles, and a gleaming antique cash register sit atop the decades-old zinc-topped bar at La Esquina de Mertí, a gorgeous old café on Plaza Arellano. Stick with drinks—mugs of icy beer or vermouth and soda are the local favorites.
