When to Go

Late September to March—spring and summer in the Southern Hemisphere—is high season in Patagonia. Reservations are advised, especially in September and October in Atlantic Patagonia and December through February in Southern Patagonia. Although the summer sun can be strong, the winds whistle year-round, so always bring extra layers and a windbreaker. In Atlantic Patagonia many properties close in April and May to prepare for the first whale-watchers in June and July. While most of Southern Patagonia grinds almost to a halt from May to September, the ski season in Ushuaia is increasingly popular.
