Fodor's Expert Review Old Consulate Inn
313 Walker St., Port Townsend, Washington, 98368, USA Fodor's Choice
Perched on a bluff above the bay, this elegant, red, turreted Victorian mansion with a sweeping veranda and parklike gardens features well-appointed view rooms, three with claw-foot tubs and one that's dog-friendly. This landmark sits opposite the 1892 county courthouse and takes its name from the acting German consul, one of the inn's early boarders. Innkeepers Cindy Madsen and Nathan Barnett, who dress in period costume, welcome guests and invite them to relax in the formal, antiques-filled parlor or help themselves to cookies and espresso in the library. The brick-lined basement holds a billiards room. A three-course breakfast (eggs Benedict is the specialty) is served in the dignified dining room with bay views.
