Fodor's Expert Review Loews Hotel 1000
1000 1st Ave., Seattle, Washington 98104, USA See on Map Fodor's Choice
Everyone oohs and aahs over the soaking tubs at Hotel 1000: They fill from the ceiling in a graceful stream of water. That's just one of the unique touches at the luxurious boutique property, which features handsome modern style, expansive views, and a prime location. The hotel also boasts a state-of-the-art virtual golf club and The Spaahh, a lovely full-service spot for pampering.
YOU SHOULD KNOW In 2016, Hotel 1000 was acquired by the Loews brand. A top-to-bottom renovation is planned in the fall of 2017, including the guestrooms. It's worth checking with the reservations desk about any planned construction.
room
Warm wood tones pop against a dark teal accent wall behind the bed, as do the crisp white bed linens and contemporary artwork. Spacious guestrooms rooms feature city views; the best ones look out on Elliott Bay.
bathroom
A soaking tub that fills from the ceiling is the first thing that guests notice, followed by the floor-to-ceiling window between the tub and the rest of the room. Don't worry, blinds can be lowered if privacy is desired. Bathrooms feature a separate toilet room and a shower, as well.
lobby
The top floors of Hotel 1000 are high-end residences and the simple the foyer of the contemporary high-rise services both. Tucked away to the right of the ground-floor lobby is a lounge featuring a striking large indoor firepit as a centerpiece, as well as ample seating and street views.
Guests are offered a glass of bubbly at check-in.
spa
Small but luxurious and serene, the full-service Spaahh welcomes guests with a glass of bubbly and a foot soak. Treatments include facials and body treatments like scrubs, wraps, and massages. For a Seattle-inspired experience, try the detoxifying Espresso Body Scrub. The invigorating clay-based treatment combines the earthy notes of Indian tobacco and sarsaparilla with volcanic pumice and coffee arabica.
gym
Located in the lower level of the hotel, the gym is windowless but bright and clean. It includes a few cardio machines, weight machines, and free weights.
dining
On-site restaurant BOKA is temporarily closed for a renovation.
LOCATION
Getting Around
A 10-minute walk in either direction (north or south) takes you to a light rail stop (Pioneer Square Station or Westlake Station); the light rail system services Sea-Tac Airport, Capitol Hill, and the University of Washington. The Westlake Center also houses the terminus for the Monorail, which connects to Seattle Center. You'll also find buses to every corner of the city and the terminus for the South Lake Union Streetcar by the Westlake stop.
Restaurants
Across the street (1-minute walk), Bookstore Bar & Cafe offers an unusual and edgy take on afternoon tea every weekend; the creative tasting menu includes everything from fluffy French toast stuffed with creme fraiche to sake-infused salmon roe, served alongside fine teas from Portland's Smith Teamaker. Prepare to leave full. (The burger at Bookstore, replete with a custom bun, is messy and magnificent if tea isn't your thing.) The posh Brooklyn Seafood Steak & Oyster House serves everything in its name with aplomb. Slurp oysters at the restaurant's popular happy hour or stick around for dinner. For a real treat, sit at the chef's counter. It's especially packed during the symphony season, so reservations are recommended.
WHY WE LIKE IT
At Hotel 1000, luxurious touches make even a short stay feel special, particularly the soaking tub that fills from the ceiling in every room, while the handsome modern design is visually appealing and very comfortable. The view rooms, overlooking Elliott Bay and drenched in sunlight, are worth the splurge, as is the hotel's soothing spa. The hotel's location is also top-notch.
