Fodor's Expert Review Busboys and Poets

$$ U Street Corridor American
The name pays tribute to American poet Langston Hughes, who worked as a busboy at the Wardman Park Hotel during the 1920s. Today, this popular local hangout is a great spot for a meal, refreshment, and lively discussions. Menu selections are extensive—omelets and egg wraps, salads, hot and cold sandwiches, soups, entrées like shrimp and grits, pastas, and fried chicken and fantastic desserts. Vegans and vegetarians have lots of choices, too. And, there's full bar service. Check out the wonderful local artwork displayed on the walls and browse through a dynamic collection of books sold by the nonprofit Teaching for Change. Don't miss the "Sunday Kind of Love" and Tuesday open-mike poetry nights; you just might catch a world-renowned poet sharing his or her work.
