Comfort Inn Downtown D.C

1201 13th St. NW, Washington, DC 20005, United States

Fodors.com

A reasonably priced option in downtown DC, this branch of the Comfort Inn delivers with clean, decent size rooms, complimentary breakfast and a helpful staff. It also has a guest laundry and 24-hour market for snacks. It’s near the convention center as well as the restaurants and bars of trendy 14th Street; the White House is only a 15-minute walk away.

YOU SHOULD KNOW There are only two elevators, so it may take a little while to reach the higher floors.

room

Though tending to be on the smaller side, the basic rooms are comfortable enough, with brown and tan carpeting, white walls and photos of DC landmarks on the walls. A 2011 reno brought modern upgrades. Room sizes include King, Double Bed and Corner King (which are a little larger).

YOU SHOULD KNOW Street traffic can be noisy. Ask for a higher-up room (which have better views!).

bathroom

The bathrooms are small and cramped, though a 2011 renovation spruced up the tiles and wallpaper.

The welcoming lobby has a small sitting area with modern armchairs and little tables. Tea and coffee are available 24/7, with cookies and popcorn in the afternoon. There’s also a grab-and-go snack bar and an activity desk to help coordinate tours.

LOCATION

Getting Around

You probably don’t want a car since valet parking costs $30 a day plus tax (which actually isn’t that bad in DC) and DC traffic can be a nightmare (not to mention the parking). You don’t need a car, anyway, since you’re within walking distance of the convention center (if you’re a conventioneer), and the restaurants, cafés and bars of 14th Street are nearby. The Smithsonian Museum of American History on the National Mall is about a mile away. For anything farther flung, the best bet for public transportation is the Metro, with the Metro Center metro station about six blocks away.

Restaurants

Brasserie Beck is a trendy brasserie leaning toward Belgian specialties with seemingly never-ending beer choices. For something a little more local, Logan Tavern is especially popular with the pre-theater crowd; it’s also known for its Sunday brunch.

Bars

Churchkey on 14th Street offers 555 hand-picked craft beers and American bites in what many consider to be the best beer bar in town, if not the region. The Post Pub is a little more gritty, a go-to for happy hour or night cap for more than six decades.

WHY WE LIKE IT

We know what we’re getting with the Comfort Inn brand. It’s nothing fancy, but for the price it’s comfortable and friendly and perfectly positioned for conventioneers headed to the convention center as well as sight-seers headed to the Mall.
