Fodor's Expert Review City House Hostel Washington DC
506 H St. NE, Washington, District of Columbia, 20002, USA
It looks like a hole-in-the-wall, but this hostel is a clean, comfortable oasis—in the heart of the bustling H Street corridor and near public transit—that's perfect for backpackers and other cost-conscious travelers. It has three private rooms and a host of mixed-dorm bunking options with from 4 to 12 beds. Bathrooms, in all cases, are shared. The amenities are generous, including free linens and towels, free Wi-Fi, and a game room and movie library. No prepared meals are offered, but the kitchen is fully stocked. To keep the place clean, no shoes or food are allowed in the dorms.
PROS
- smack in the center of a lively strip of bars, restaurants, and grocery stores
- good chance to meet fellow travelers
- by far the cheapest option close to the Capitol
CONS
- H Street can be noisy
- cramped accommodations
- very few private rooms
