Capitol Hill Hotel

200 C St. SE, Washington, DC 20003, United States

Just a few blocks from the US Capitol and the National Mall, this chic, Federalist hotel on a leafy residential street offers apartment-style living on Capitol Hill. Smaller rooms have kitchenettes, larger rooms have full kitchens. There’s a 24-hour gym, 24-hour market, wine reception in the library, and complimentary breakfast. DC touches include cherry blossom motifs, political cartoon artwork, and colonial-style wainscoting. Plenty of restaurants and bars await within walking distance.

Discounts are offered on extended stays.

Stylish, spacious rooms feature plush white bedding, American walnut furnishings, DC-inspired Americana art, and accents of red, charcoal, and gray.

YOU SHOULD KNOW The hotel uses digital keys, requiring that you download an app to get into your room (though regular room key cards are on offer -- you just need to ask at the front desk).

The cozy lobby has a coffee and tea bar available throughout the day.

Getting Around

Capitol Hill Hotel is located on Capitol Hill, just two blocks from the US Capitol. Parking is expensive, and DC traffic can be horrendous; it's recommended to leave your car behind. Your best option for public transportation is the metro, with the Capitol South metro stop just two blocks away.

For New American cuisine with a California twist, head to Sonoma Restaurant and Wine Bar (3-minute walk). Or for mussels, onion soup, steak frites, and other French bistro fare, the charming Montmartre (10-minute walk) is your place. We know the hotel provides breakfast for free, but no-frills Pete's Diner (2-minute walk), just up the street, is a Hill institution and worth a stop by.

Established in 1967 (but newly renovated), Hawk 'n' Dove (4-minute walk) is a long-time Cap Hill favorite watering hole serving locals, congressional staffers, and the occasional political celebrity; the pub grub menu offers burgers, sandwiches, and the like. Mr. Henry's (6-minute walk) is another long-time institution, beloved for its brews, hamburgers (Monday is half-priced burger night), and live jazz.

Its location on Capitol Hill, near museums, restaurants, and bars, couldn't be better, and the staff is friendly and helpful. But it's the little touches at the Capitol Hill Hotel that stand out the most, such as welcome notes, chocolates, and free water. Oh, the bikes are a perk as well -- the National Mall is just down the hill and easy to explore by bike (you can even bike all the way to Arlington Cemetery, Old Town Alexandria, etc etc). All in all, it feels like our very own pied-à-terre, in the heart of the capital city.
