Fodor's Review

Torpedoes were manufactured here by the U.S. Navy during World War II, but now the building houses six galleries, as well as the studios and workshops of about 160 artists and artisans. You can observe printmakers, jewelers, sculptors, painters, potters, textile artists, and glass makers as they create original work in their studios. The Torpedo Factory also houses the Alexandria Archaeology Museum, which displays artifacts such as plates, cups, pipes, and coins from an early tavern, and Civil War soldiers' equipment. If archaeological activities interest you, call to sign up for the well-attended public digs (offered once a month in June, August, and September and twice in October).
