Fodor's Expert Review Escalante Petrified Forest State Park

Escalante Park (National/State/Provincial)

This state park was created to protect a huge repository of petrified wood, easily spotted along two moderate-to-strenuous hiking trails. Of equal interest to area locals and visitors is the park's Wide Hollow Reservoir at the base of the hiking trails, which has a swimming beach and is good for boating, fishing, and birding.
