Fodor's Expert Review Grand Wash Road
A dirt road spur from the main scenic drive, starting 3.4 miles from the visitor center, follows this twisting route down a canyon for about 1.2 miles. The unpaved, sometimes sandy, bumpy road winds between steep canyon walls and lets you see the remnants of a uranium mine. To access the narrowest part you must get out and walk. Allow a little more than a half hour for your adventure. Before taking this drive, check at the visitor center for flash-flood warnings.
