Fodor's Expert Review Odd Duck

$$$ South Austin Modern American

This food truck turned brick and mortar was an early trailblazer of the city’s farm to table movement, thanks to chef Bryce Gilmore’s inventive take on locally sourced, modern American cuisine. Gilmore and his team’s artistic approach to Southern seasonal fare come in tapas-sized portions, so servers recommend a few dishes per patron. All the better to sample their variety of rotating dishes, from foie gras pizza and buckwheat crumpets to beer battered sweet potatoes. The Sunday brunch is a popular ticket, with signatures like a “croquet senora” with wild boar, hatch chiles, and a perfectly fried egg. The in-house pastry and dessert selections are equally scrumptious, but popular bites like their apple cake doughnut and mini macaroon ice cream sandwiches, change often.
