Fodor's Expert Review Flip Happy Crepes
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
More than just a restaurant, Flip Happy is the dream-made-real of Andrea Day Boykin and Nessa Higgins, who are doing their share to "keep Austin weird," serving up French-inspired crepes out of a 1966-vintage silver trailer on a tree-sheltered side street in South Austin. The crepes are super-moist, salty-spicy, flavorful and substantial (just one makes a good-size lunch). Chicken, mushrooms, goat cheese, shredded pork, and smoked salmon are typical ingredients, and the team also whips up sweet crepes and Saturday breakfast. It's just a fun place to grab a bite and sit with some of the happiest, in-the-know diners in town at a motley assortment of mismatched tables and chairs. Short hours are the main drawback: Flip Happy is generally open 10–2:30 Wednesday–Friday and 9–3 Saturday, but check the Web site for changes. Dinner is sometimes served on Saturdays in warm weather.
