Another relatively new chain hotel in The Domain shopping district, The Westin offers the dependability of an established brand with a slightly more sophisticated sheen. The lobby and main floor lounges are light filled and modern, and typically bustling with business travelers and happy-hour crowds of Domain shoppers who frequent the gourmet onsite restaurant, urban, which is extremely satisfying, albeit pricey. Rooms and suites are spacious, with comfy beds, complete with pillowtop mattresses and down pillows.
The décor of the rooms isn’t particularly sexy, with their neutral tones and functional furniture, but that’s ok. Comfort is the name of the game here. Traditional rooms and suites can sleep up to 4 and offer Westin’s Heavenly Bed—a combination of top-of-the-line mattresses and bedding. Also included is in-room Starbucks coffee and other perks.
Westin’s Heavenly Bed set is for sale on their website.
The nicely sized bathrooms feature makeup mirrors with warm lighting, modern fixtures and Westin’s very own Heavenly Bath including a rainfall shower and White Tea Aloe bath products.
The spacious lobby is welcoming with tons of wood features, gold accents and modern furniture.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Wireless Internet is $14.95 a day.
Plenty of seating around the moderate-sized outdoor pool with direct sunlight and views of The Domain.
Located in The Domain—a collection of upscale eateries, bars, hotels and condos—means it’s easy to get around on foot. However, since this area is 12 miles north of downtown, you’re going to want to rent a car or hail a taxi or Uber to get you into town.
A Domain branch of the beloved downtown eatery Second Bar + Kitchen (9-minute walk) is known for its brunch and shareable plates. Popular dishes include their Black + Bleu black truffle and pork belly pizza, and their truffle fries. Culinary Dropout (9-minute walk) is a small chain of fancier bar fare, like Cheddar & Potato Pierogies and 36-Hour Pork Ribs.
For adult kids, Punch Bowl Social Austin (1-minute walk) has it all: bowling, darts, karaoke, billiards, food, and libations. You can kill hours at this gargantuan place while knocking back adult milkshakes and punches, of course. If high-end wine is your thing, look no further than Cru Food & Wine Bar. The stylish yet relaxed venue offers 30 wines by glasses paired with perfectly crafted small plates.
WHY WE LIKE IT
While there may be more modern and unique accommodations at The Domain, the Westin is always reliable with ridiculously comfortable beds and friendly staff. We also like that this hotel is in walking distance to tons of fun shops and eateries. The Domain might not be Downtown Austin, but it's close enough.
