On the shores of Lady Bird Lake in between the Congress and South First Street bridges, this hotel provides great views and convenient downtown access. The huge, skylit lobby, opens into a central atrium rising 17 stories. Rooms, slated for impending upgrades, have 32-inch flat-screen TVs and iPod docking stations. Request a high-floor room to ensure views of Lady Bird Lake and Austin’s skyline. Business meetings, wedding parties and seasonal events at the nearby Auditorium Shores, keep the Hyatt hopping year-round. LOCATION

Getting Around

Walking around is easy at this centrally located hotel. Otherwise you can grab a bicycle, pedicab or Uber to get you a little further.

Restaurants

For a quick bite, drive or walk up to hamburger stand Sandy's (7-minute walk) where you can munch on a cheap burger, hot dog or sundae. Nearby Threadgill's (4-minute) is an Austin institution. The enduring Southern eatery is known for their live music and Sunday gospel brunch. Zax Restaurant & Bar (4-minute walk) is a bistro with full bar. The light, open restaurant serves upscale salads, pasta and seafood dishes.

Bars

Aussie’s Grill & Beach Bar (3-minute walk) has your typical sports bar food, but what this decades-old spot is known for is cheap drink specials and outdoor volleyball near Lady Bird Lake. Cedar Door Patio Bar and Grill (14-minute walk), home to the original Mexican Martini, offers a pub menu with large beer selection and signature martinis. A great spot for sitting outside and enjoying Downtown Austin.

WHY WE LIKE IT

The recent upgrades make this a polished stay, and the central location means it’s super easy to see the sights and sounds of Austin. We love the custom Hyatt beds with back support and plush bedding, and the large pool overlooking Lady Bird Lake makes you feel like your on an exotic retreat.
