Fodor's Expert Review Coastal Discovery Museum

Hilton Head Island Museum/Gallery Fodor's Choice

This interactive museum features a butterfly enclosure, hands-on programs for children, and guided walks of the 68-acre property that includes marshes, live oaks, and the state's largest Southern red cedar tree, which dates back to 1595. Exhibits cover the history of the Lowcountry, including the early development of Hilton Head as an island resort after the Civil War. Although the museum is just off the Cross Island Parkway, the peaceful grounds make it feel miles away.
