Fodor's Expert Review Great Swamp Sanctuary

Walterboro Park/Playground
Free Fodor's Choice

Boardwalks and hiking, biking, and canoe trails weave through this lovely 600-acre park, sometimes referred to as Walterboro Wildlife Sanctuary. One of the paths traces the colonial-era Charleston-to-Savannah Stagecoach Road, where you can still see the cypress remnants of historic bridges. It's a Southern swamp, so douse yourself with insect repellent and be on alert for reptiles.
