Fodor's Expert Review Edisto Beach State Park
This 1,255-acre park includes a 1½-mile-long beachfront with some of the area's best shelling, marshland, and tidal rivers, and a lush maritime forest with a 7-mile trail running through it. The trail is hard-packed shell sand, suitable for bikes and wheelchairs. Overnight options include two campgrounds and seven handsome, fully furnished cabins with marshfront vistas. The park stays extremely busy, so you have to reserve cabins and campsites as far as 11 months in advance. The small ranger station has some fishing poles to lend and firewood for sale. Pets on leashes are allowed. The park's Environmental Learning Center features animal exhibits and a touch tank. It's an excellent jumping off point for exploring the natural history of Edisto Island and the surrounding ACE Basin.
