Nearly a dozen windows here afford picturesque views of the passing horse-drawn carriages. The softly lighted, gilt-trimmed dining room is ideal for romantic occasions, though some locals prefer the more casual scene downstairs. Cuisine is traditional Lowcountry, including shrimp-and-grits and oysters fried in cornmeal (both served as appetizers). The she-crab soup is one of the best around. The chef takes liberties with some classics, including the whole crispy flounder in apricot sauce and the roasted red snapper with succotash and shrimp, giving them a more contemporary spin. Gooey, molten chocolate cake with house-made peanut butter ice cream is a favorite. Known for: several steps above most of the tourist-oriented fare on Market Street; addictive fried oysters.
