Hyatt House Charleston/Historic District

560 King St., Charleston, South Carolina 29403, United States

Why We Like It

Hyatt House goes above and beyond to make sure all your creature comforts are met and that you can stick to a routine while on the road. Though it’s lacking the character of a boutique hotel, its prices are reasonable, and the modern style, hip location, and quiet, comfortable rooms will please even the pickiest of travelers.

Fodor's Expert Review

Those planning an extended stay in Charleston will find a peaceful and convenient refuge in the Hyatt House. Offering modern apartment-style suites with a stainless steel-filled kitchen, workspace, and den, guest rooms are well suited for corporate travelers and groups looking to make themselves at home. The hotel’s amenities are geared toward those folks, too, with grocery delivery, day-of dry cleaning, an indoor pool, and fitness center. Friendly staff and a stellar location in the trendy Upper King neighborhood add to the appeal.

Tip The Hyatt House offers two two-bedroom suits that can fit up to eight, but they book fast.

Room

In all rooms, expect tidy, comfortable beds and contemporary sectionals, plus neutral colors and natural light galore. Standard rooms offer a mini-fridge and microwave, while high floor rooms, studios, and suites give you a full kitchen (with a dishwasher, stove, utensils, dishware, and on).

You Should Know Even on the highest floors, you don’t get a great view: on one side is a U-Haul; on the other is a parking garage.

Bathroom

Black tile lends the roomy walk-in shower a Zen-like vibe and a wide vanity mirror gives off flattering light.

Lobby

The bright, welcoming lobby is quite large, with a midcentury modern aesthetic and convenient workstations and seating areas scattered throughout. In early 2018, the space is being conjoined with the lobby of Hyatt Place, the sister property located next door.

Pool

Take a quick dip or swim laps in the heated indoor pool. Skylights brighten the space while chaises provide ample seating.

Gym

Pack your sneaks: a 24-hour gym boasts the equipment you’ll need plus complimentary earphones and chilled water.

Dining

Head to the lobby to enjoy a complimentary breakfast featuring continental mainstays and a made-to-order omelet bar. A grab-and-go market stocked with grocery staples is open 24/7, and the bar sells sandwiches, soups, and salads.

Drinking

Starting at 4 p.m., the H Bar serves up creative cocktails, craft beer, and wine. Snuggle up with your libation in the lobby or around the fire pit outside.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Valet ($30 per day) is a wise choice if you’ll be coming and going frequently. Otherwise, park your car in the garage next door ($17 per day; $2 per hour). Hail a ride-share or pedicab for quick commutes, but plan to walk often as you’re within a longer stroll of the historic district and in the heart of Charleston’s thriving food-and-bev scene.

Restaurants

Take a faux trip to Italy by dining at the intimate Trattoria Lucca (8-minute walk). For top-notch soups and salads, plus comfort food like chicken piccata, try Five Loaves Café (5-minute walk). And for bar food done very right—don’t miss out on the loaded tots or nachos—along with bowling, big-screens, and arcade games, head to The Alley (4-minute walk).

Bars

The Alley (4-minute walk) gets quite rowdy on weekends and during major sporting events. To taste the local craft beer scene, check out Revelry Brewing (7-minute drive), and for a hole-in-the-wall vibe, live music, and delicious wine and cocktails, walk on over to Elliotborough Mini Bar (8-minute walk).
