Fodor's Expert Review DownCity

$$ Downtown Eclectic

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Youthful, artsy, energetic, and popular with the gay community, this contemporary take on a city tavern moved into an airier space in 2008 but continues to pull in students from nearby Johnson & Wales, as well as revelers heading out to the neighborhood's clubs later (you can socialize here until well after midnight, and there's live music some evenings). The menu pulls from around the globe and includes fried whole-belly clams with sriracha (Thai chili) rémoulade sauce, meat loaf with caramelized-onion demi-glace and buttermilk-mashed potatoes, and grilled watermelon salad with feta and balsamic. During the day, it's a fab brunch/lunch option—try the crab cakes Benedict with home fries.
