Downtown

Providence contains about two dozen official neighborhoods and a handful of unofficial ones, each with its own identity. You may, for instance, hear locals refer to Downtown's artistic and financial core as Downcity. North of Downcity is the often-bustling Waterplace Park; west of Downcity is Federal Hill, long an Italian-American bastion but these days diversifying. It's definitely worth a stop, and, if you're traveling with kids, so is the Providence Children's Museum.
