Fodor's Expert Review Wanton-Lyman-Hazard House

Newport Historic Home

As Newport's oldest house museum, this late-17th-century residence provides a glimpse of the city's Colonial and Revolutionary history. The dark-red building was the site of the city's Stamp Act riot of 1765. After the British Parliament levied a tax on most printed material, the Sons of Liberty stormed the house, which was then occupied by a prominent Loyalist.
