Fodor's Expert Review Museum of Yachting at IYRS
The 2½-acre campus the International Yachting Restoration School is home to the 1831 Aquidneck Mill, whose fourth floor houses the Museum of Yachting and the IYRS library. The museum's exhibits include yachting-related art and historical artifacts, and the maritime reference library contains more than 4,000 nautical titles, among them rare books, logbooks, yacht registers, and yacht club directories. From an elevated catwalk inside the adjacent Restoration Hall, a large brick building erected in 1903 and formerly an electric power plant, you can watch work being done on historically significant sailboats and powerboats. One big project taking place outside the hall these days is the ongoing restoration of the 1885 racing schooner Coronet.
