Rhode Island Treats

Clam Cakes. It's not summer for locals without a pilgrimage to a clam shack for these hunks of fried dough with briny, meaty clams inside. Pair them with the chowder of your choice.

Coffee Milk. The official state drink, coffee milk is like chocolate milk but made instead with coffee-flavored syrup, preferably Autocrat Coffee Syrup.

Del's Frozen Lemonade. You can get one of these refreshingly cold drinks from one of many Del's trucks making the rounds in the summer or at a Del's storefront.

NY System Wieners. Try a hot dog "done all the way": topped with meat sauce, mustard, onions, and celery salt. (They're said to be a great hangover cure.)

Rhode Island Style Calamari. This dish of lightly fried squid with hot cherry peppers and garlic is the official state appetizer for a good reason: the Port of Galilee in Narragansett processes millions of pounds of squid annually.
