Hiking

Clay Head Nature Trail. The outstanding Clay Head Nature Trail meanders past Clay Head Swamp and along 150-foot clay bluffs. Songbirds chirp and flowers bloom along the paths; stick close to the ocean for a stunning hike that ends at Sachem Pond, or venture into the interior's intertwining paths for hours of wandering and blackberrying in an area called the Maze. The trailhead is recognizable by a simple white post marker on the east side of Corn Neck Road about 2 miles north of Old Harbor. Clay Head Trail Rd., New Shoreham, Rhode Island, 02807.

Greenway. The Block Island Chamber of Commerce distributes maps of this well-maintained trail system that meanders for 28 miles across the island, crossing stone walls and reaching otherwise inaccessible places. Greenway, New Shoreham, Rhode Island, 02807.
