With plush beds and 37-inch flat-screen televisions, spacious work areas, and complimentary Internet access, this hotel offers a nice balance of luxury and practicality. For a caffeine fix, there are in-room coffeemakers with Starbucks coffee. The gym, which is open 24 hours, has top-of-the-line treadmills and elliptical machines. The ground floor features a location of Sang Kee, a popular pan-Asian restaurant that originated in Philly's Chinatown. The hotel is within walking distance of 30th Street Station, the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, and, on a nice day, downtown Philadelphia.

Standard rooms are contemporary and minimal with standard hotel stylings like pastel striped blackout curtains, mahogany desks, muted lamps and a recliner chair. Beds are cult favorite comfy Sheraton Sweet Sleeper beds with down or foam pillows. There are large work desks with outlets available, desk chair, and lamp. The artwork in the rooms is University and Philadephia inspired.

Extra pillows are available upon request.

bathroom

All rooms have a shower tub combination, sinks are marble, and the products are Le Grand Bain bars, bodywash, shampoo and conditioner.

lobby

The lobby faces bustling Chestnut street in University City. The lobby is recently renovated and has a geometric modern design with a gas fireplace used in the wintertime. The restaurant and garage entrance also found on the lobby level.

pool

There is a popular outdoor rooftop pool, which opens Memorial Day closes Sept. It has a nice surrounding sun deck with lounge chairs and poolside snacks.

Treadmills, ellipticals, weights/bench-press, yoga materials and mats, private bathroom, water fountain, and towels available.

Two ancient Chinese armored statues stand outside the best Chinese food in Philly, originally from Chinatown, there is an outpost of Sang Kee Noodle House in the lobby of the hotel.Try the shrimp dumpling noodle soup, Peking Duck and spicy Kung Pao shrimp with peanuts, pan-fried noodles and chow fun. The casual chic restaurant also has a full bar and serves dim sum for breakfast.

Sangkee Noodle House has a full bar to sit at with Chinese beers and all the well drinks you can imagine, try a tequila sunrise.

LOCATION

Getting Around

University City is totally walkable. It's a 4-minute walk to 34th Street station's Market Frankford Line to get down to Center City. 1-minute walk to the #10 trolley.

Restaurants

A local institution since 1983, White Dog Cafe (3-minute walk) particularly a West Philly institution, is an award-winning contemporary local, seasonal, sustainably raised American Cuisine resto known for and friendly service.

POD (3-minute walk) from Steve Starr is an ultra-modern conveyor sushi/pan-Asian restaurant that has an ultra-hip lounge, where guests gather to sip colorful cocktails and people watch.

Bars

City Tap House (10-minute walk) is a popular tavern with 60-plus craft beers plus an outdoor terrace. They also serve brick oven pizza.

CoZara (5-minute walk) is a chic two-floor Japanese izakaya for small plates, sushi and sake cocktails.

WHY WE LIKE IT

Location, location, location. It's right next door to the University of Pennsylvania, 30th Street Station for arriving into town and it's walkable to downtown or the Art Museum if you choose (public transit is minutes away.) One of Philadelphia's best Chinese restaurants is located right inside but the pool brings the score up.
