Kennett Square

Kennett Square is where mushroom cultivation began in the United States. By the mid-1920s, 90% of the nation's mushrooms were grown in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The town celebrates its heritage with its annual Mushroom Festival in September. Most visitors come to visit Longwood Gardens, a lovely spot about 3 miles northeast of Kennett Square. The town itself, with its Victorian-era homes lining the tree-lined streets, is also worth a visit; there are shops, galleries, and restaurants along East State Street between Broad and Union.
