Fodor's Expert Review Norblad Hotel
443 14th St., Astoria, Oregon, 97103, USA Fodor's Choice
Formerly a boardinghouse, this attractively renovated, offbeat hotel occupies a stately two-story 1920s building a few steps from Fort George Brewery and offers a mix of small, European-style rooms with shared baths down the hall and a few spacious suites with a private bath. The friendly and helpful owners are constantly making upgrades, and the rates are as low as you'll find on the Oregon Coast, making this quite a deal if you're okay with simply decorated accommodations.
PROS
- nice common areas and kitchen
- short walk from downtown shopping and dining
- bargain-priced rooms
CONS
- fairly basic decor
- offbeat, arty vibe isn't for everyone
