Fodor's Expert Review Chanticleer Inn
120 Gresham St., Ashland, Oregon, 97520, USA Fodor's Choice
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
At this courtly, 1920 Craftsman-style bed-and-breakfast, owner Ellen Campbell has given the rooms a tasteful, contemporary flair with muted, nature-inspired colors and Arts and Crafts furnishings and patterns. This is one of the most picturesque structures in this hilly and historic residential neighborhood just a few blocks south of the Shakespeare theaters and Main Street restaurants—.you can relax in a fragrant butterfly garden, arranger for in-room massage, and enjoy the excellent breakfast with the other guests or privately, in good weather, at a table in the garden.
PROS
- rooms all have expansive views of the Cascade Mountains
- only eco-friendly products are used
- exceptional two-course breakfasts
CONS
- not ideal if you prefer less anonymity and a larger property
- although on a side street, downtown location is a little busy in summer
- can book up fast in summer
