Fodor's Expert Review Under the Greenwood Tree
3045 Bellinger La., Medford, Oregon, 97501, USA
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Regulars at this bed-and-breakfast between Medford and Jacksonville find themselves hard-pressed to decide what they like most: the luxurious and romantic rooms, the stunning 10-acre farm, or the hearty three-course country-style breakfasts. Gigantic old oaks hung with hammocks shade the inn, an 1860s farmhouse exuding genteel charm. There's a manicured 2-acre lawn and a creaky three-story barn for exploring; an outbuilding holds the buckboard wagon that brought the property's original homesteaders westward on the Oregon Trail. The interior is decorated in Renaissance splendor, and all rooms have private baths. Afternoon tea is served.
PROS
- stunning setting amid farm fields and overlooking the Cascades
- breakfast will fill you up well into the late afternoon
CONS
- a few miles southwest of downtown (but en route to Jacksonville)
- old-fashioned rooms won't appeal to modernists or minimalists
