Fodor's Expert Review Chanticleer Inn

120 Gresham St., Ashland, Oregon, 97520, USA Fodor's Choice

At this courtly, 1920 Craftsman-style bed-and-breakfast, owner Ellen Campbell has given the rooms a tasteful, contemporary flair with muted, nature-inspired colors and Arts and Crafts furnishings and patterns. This is one of the most picturesque structures in this hilly and historic residential neighborhood just a few blocks south of the Shakespeare theaters and Main Street restaurants. You can relax in a fragrant butterfly garden, and in-room massage can be arranged by appointment. Breakfast here is a treat, served communally (although staff is happy to set up a small table in the garden in good weather, if you'd prefer some morning privacy while you dine) and consisting of two courses—grilled grapefruit with cheese biscuits and shiitake-sherry frittatas are among the specialties.
