Hidden within an old shopping plaza in the Hillsdale neighborhood, Three Square Grill specializes in large plates of comfort food fashioned from local, organic ingredients. The restaurateurs at this family-run grill are very much do-it-yourselfers: they smoke their own pastrami, salmon, and provolone; pickle their own peppers, carrots, and onions; mix their own dressings, sauces, and aiolis; and bake their own burger buns, pies, and desserts. Dishes include a NC-style barbeque sandwich with slaw and hush puppies; a bouillabaisse with shrimp, crab, oysters, mussels, and crawfish; and a killer burger with add-ons including kimchi, grilled onion, and an organic egg. The Sunday brunch is a big hit at this kid-friendly place.
