Fodor's Expert Review Mediterranean Exploration Company

$$ Pearl District Mediterranean Fodor's Choice

Developed by cookbook author and celeb-chef John Gorham, this tribute to Mediterranean cuisine occupies a handsome former warehouse on historic 13th Avenue in the Pearl. MEC (for short) is an energy-filled, open space with a mix of communal and individual tables—it's surprisingly affordable considering the quality and portions, particularly if you opt for the $40 tasting menu. Food is served family style, and highlights include house-made labneh (strained yogurt) with olive oil and fried cauliflower; Lebanese lamb tartare kibbeh; Nazareth kebabs with beef and lamb; and chreime, a traditional Jewish fish stew from Tripoli. There are plenty of veggie options, too. Save room for cardamom ice cream, over which your server ladles robust Turkish coffee. Many drinks from the cocktail menu also touch on the region, such as the Casablanca, with three types of rum, lime, date sugar, and rose water.
