Fodor's Expert Review Kenny & Zuke's Delicatessen

$ Downtown Sandwiches

The reputation of this Jewish deli beside the hip Ace Hotel is based largely on its much-revered pastrami. Cured for seven days, then smoked for 10 hours and steamed for 3, the rich and flavorful meat is best tasted on a rye bread sandwich or, if your appetite is heartier, the warm, sauerkraut-packed Reuben. Kenny & Zuke's makes its own pickles and produces its own bagels, proofing the dough for 36 hours before hand-forming the circles then boiling and baking them in small batches. The open and airy Downtown space serves omelets, Benedicts, biscuits, and breakfast sandwiches all day, along with a wide selection of soups, salads, and meaty sandwiches. The Nob Hill location, in a no-frills space furnished with picnic tables, specializes in the bagels.
