Fodor's Expert Review Firehouse Restaurant
Occupying a stately, redbrick, former firehouse, this inviting neighborhood spot in Northeast's Woodlawn neighborhood is warmed by a wood-fire oven, rustic redbrick-and-wood decor, and sunlight streaming through a glass garage door that's open in nice weather. Although justly well-known for the delicious thin-crust pizzas (try the one with chanterelles, garlic, mozzarella, and thyme), the restaurant receives just as much kudos for its appetizers, salads, and grills, from lightly battered and perfectly fried cauliflower with aioli to meatballs with tomato, rosemary, and kale. Also consider the great prices, including the option of a $25 three-course prix fixe that includes appetizer, salad, and pizza. Opt for a table in the cozier back room for a bit more quiet. The quiet, mostly residential neighborhood is a lovely area for an after-dinner stroll.
