Fodor's Expert Review Bollywood Theater
Set beneath a soaring beamed ceiling, and with a welcoming mix of worn wooden seating, kitschy decor, bright fabrics, and intoxicating smells, this lively restaurant along Division Street's hoppin' restaurant row specializes in Indian street food and reflects chef-owner Troy MacLarty's colorful, delicious, authentic vision of India as experienced on several trips. Order at the counter, and your food will be brought to you—there's a mix of two-tops and communal tables, with additional seating on a spacious patio. Nosh on vada pav (spicy potato dumplings with chutney), gobi Manchurian (Indo-Chinese fried cauliflower with lemon, curry leaves, and sweet-and-sour sauce), and beets roasted in coconut milk, before moving on to one of the larger plates, such as Goan-style shrimp served with a full complement of chutneys, paratha bread, and dal. There's even a market to one side of the open-plan dining room selling spices, curries, and other edibles and gifts from India. The original location is in the Alberta Arts District.
