If you’re looking for a comfortable, no-frills spot with easy access to the airport and a decent list of amenities, Shilo Inn Suites Hotel is a solid choice. Just a few minutes outside Portland International Airport, this property isn’t going to win any style awards, but in terms of comfort, convenience, and affordability, it’s a definite winner.
The suite-style rooms at Shilo Inn Suites Hotel are spacious, with separate living and sleeping areas. The rooms also come equipped with amenities like microwaves, mini-fridges, satellite TV, and free Wi-Fi.
If you’re planning on staying in Portland for awhile, no need to overpack--Shilo Inn Suites Hotel offers valet laundry.
The bathrooms at Shilo Inn Suites Hotel are also spacious, if a bit dated.
The bathrooms don’t come stocked with toiletries, so you’ll have to bring your own from home.
The lobby at Shilo Inn Suites Hotel is definitely spacious, but the design (which looks like a relic from the late 70s) can be a bit off-putting.
If you're up early, stop by the lobby, where they lay out a complimentary continental breakfast for guests.
One major plus at Shilo Inn Suites Hotel is the HUGE indoor pool. Stop in and take a dip, then follow it up with a nice, relaxing soak in the whirlpool.
This property has a small fitness room with some weight machines and cardio equipment.
Shilo Restaurant is a diner-style American restaurant in the West Wing of the hotel--and it’s surprisingly good for a casual hotel restaurant. Stop by for a burger or some A+ delicious pork chops.
Shilo Restaurant also has a full-service alcohol and Cigar bar, where you can sit and enjoy a stogie with your Old Fashioned.
Shilo Inn Suites Hotel is convenient to the airport… and not much else. You can either walk to the nearest MAX Station at Cascade Station (which will take you about 6-minutes) or you can bring a car (parking is free). They also have a free airport shuttle to and from PDX.
There’s not a ton of great eating by the airport, but Bistro23 (12-minute walk) is an exception. This relaxed bistro has an excellent farm-to-table menu of classics like Pork Chops and Smoked Meatballs (they also make a killer pizza). Another great restaurant that’s not too far is MeKha (11-minute drive), a Vietnamese restaurant where you can score some of the best pho in Portland.
If you don’t want to venture too far from the hotel, Katie’s Backyard (4-minute drive) is a dive bar in the neighborhood with pool, darts, and a decent beer list. If you’re willing to venture further into Portland, try The Knock Back (14-minute drive), a laid-back spot in the trendy Alberta Arts district known for their inventive cocktails and awesome happy hour deals (make sure to try their “Punch of the Day,” which always packs a punch, for just $5).
WHY WE LIKE IT
Shilo Inn Suites Airport is a comfortable budget hotel, and while it doesn’t win any points for originality or style, it’s affordable price tag and convenience make up for it.
